Locusts (Tiddi):
Tiddi means locusts is a type of insect. Locusts are a collection of certain species of short horned grasshopper belong to a family Acrididae that have a swarming phase.
These insects are usually solitary but under certain circumstances they become more abundant and change their behavior and habits. No taxonomic distinction is made between locusts and grasshopper species.
Whether, a sprcies forms swarms under intermittenly suitable conditions.
Locusts attack in India:
The dangerous from swarms not now, but when they breed after July with the new kharif crops. Locusts normally live and breed in semi arid desert region. For laying eggs, they require bare ground found in areas with dense vegetation.
The large scale breeding and swarm formation takes place only when conditions turn very favourable in their natural habitat desert and semi arid regions.
The main locusts breeding areas in the horn of Africa, yemen, oman, southern Iran in march-april.
The season of kharif and rabi crops are breed in the month of july.
The UN agricultural agencies first warned of the locust threat in January as the insects headed for east africa.
Desert locusts have now been sighted to djbouti, Eritrea, South Sudan, one of Africa's most fragile economies.
They have now been sighted on the Eastern borders of The democratic republic of the congo- a country that has not seen a locusts threat since 1944.
The UN said in a statement in February - " this is a scourage of biblical proportions".
Now, a days Tiddi (locusts) spread in a different areas for ex. Mumbai, rajasthan or a semi arid regions. When all over the world including doctors and scientist find out the vaccine of COVID-19 or corona virus. The new problem occur in India i.e Tiddi (locusts).
There is enough lead time for the government to avert a crisis it cannot afford on top on dealing with COVID-19.
